Alex Jackson has severe depression and post-traumatic stress disorder. It’s an occupational hazard from being a paramedic. He’s having nightmares, getting irritable with patients and co-workers, and drinking to excess. As he reaches rock bottom, he embarks on a journey to improve his mental health, only to discover that the mental health system isn’t what he thought it would be. He’s in a battle against his inner demons to find the mental and emotional support that he needs before his demons cause him to lose everything.

Review from Beta Reader:

Alex can be hard to like at times, with his anger bursts and self-loathing, but this only makes him more relatable. His flaws are understandable, and most readers will recognise some of the thoughts in the books as thing they have thought themselves at one point or another. I believe this means that a lot of readers will see themselves in one way or another in Alex. The dialogue was on point, it was easy to identify who was saying what at all times. The tone of the dialogue is also consistent, with each character having their own voice, while keeping it realistic. The descriptions used are excellent. The inner voice and thoughts of Alex are described in a way that pulls the reader in, and causes them to feel, at least partially, what Alex is feeling. The way it’s written feels, at times, like a pull; there were times I didn’t want to stop reading because it felt like I was in the middle of the breakdowns myself. The pace of this book is excellent, there were no moments where the book dragged on, nor did it feel rushed. The flow is the same, every scene is well defined and it’s easy to know when a scene changed without the need to re-read a passage.
